Meet Our Interim Pastor, the Reverand Kaaren Nesmith

It is with hope arms and warms hearts that on January 15th, we welcomed the Rev. Kaaren Nesmith as our Interim Pastor. Kaaren (pronounced like Karen) is a native of Southport, Indiana. After her son and daughter were grown, she went back to school and finished her undergraduate work at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.  Kaaren then returned to her Midwestern roots attending and ultimately receiving her Master of Divinity from McCormick Seminary in Chicago.

Kaaren is an intentional interim; that is, she feels called to help churches in transition and does only interim work.  She has completed both phases of the interim training offered by our denomination; La Porte will be her third interim position. She has also served as a called pastor and as chaplain in a hospital and with the US Military Chaplain’s Office in Schweinfurt, Germany.

In addition to her interim training experience, Kaaren brings to us a passion for pastoral care and a desire to aid us in healing and growth.  Kaaren will be living in the Fox Street house located across the street from A. Bernacchi Greenhouses. Her first Sunday in the pulpit will be January 21; worship will be followed by a potluck in the Fireside Room. Following worship on January 28, Kaaren will preside at an open forum to which everyone is welcomed.
